How Are You Really?

You’ve just taken the first step

Psychotherapy is the term given to a range of therapeutic modalities used to assist a client in behaviour change and improve their coping skills. To date there are 700 known modalities of psychotherapy with some being more recognised and effective than others.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Looks at the link between a person’s thoughts, feelings and actions, and how each may affect their perception and wellbeing.

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy

A type of CBT that integrates mindfulness.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Increases awareness of how distressing thoughts and feelings came to be.

Dialectical behaviour therapy

Teaches positive behavioural skills to manage stress, emotions and develop positive relationships. It is a type of CBT.

Interpersonal therapy

Helps a person deal more effectively with people and situations they find difficult.

Clinical Hypnotherpay

Elicits behaviour change utilising the power of deep relaxation to gain heightened suggestibility from the client.

Supportive psychotherapy

A talking-based therapy designed to allow a person with mental health issues to voice their concerns, and receive encouragement and help in finding practical solutions.

Acceptance and commitment therapy

Helps a person accept stressful events, such as experiencing psychotic symptoms, and commit to develop positive attitudes towards them and focus on the present moment.

How Our Behaviour Is Formed

Since our brains are neuroplastic, repeating behaviour over and over again allows our brain to develop and connect in such a way that it will create a physical neural pathway. This is exactly how our behaviours are developed. Understanding this developmental process is at the heart of Psychotherapy. Our approach is solution focused and outcome driven. We want you to be doing better at the end of your journey with us, not just feeling better.

A psychotherapist, counsellor, psychologist and psychiatrist will be trained and licensed to use a range of modalities.

Things we work with you on

There is help and you don’t have to stay stuck where you are. Expand each area to learn more.

Anxiety

Anxiety isn’t just worrying, although if you have anxiety you're an expert at it.  Anxiety preoccupies your mind and can seriously restrict and affect your quality of life. We arm you to challenge these, assessing, analysing and consciously deciding what is true vs what you're telling yourself.

Depression and Low Mood

Depression is unbiased and impartial. It and can creep up on anyone at any given time without warning. It’s a crippling mental health issue that the WHO puts as the number one reason for human suffering and disability. We move you from hopeless to hopeful, helpless to capable showing you that you are NOT your depression.

Low Self Esteem

Self Acceptance is an inside job, not an outside one. Low self esteem is real. It rips away our potential and our passions tearing our life's purpose away from us.  We show you there's no need for the external validation when you can do this for yourself (and YES, you will be able to do this for yourself)

Trauma and PTSD

When you suffer from trauma-related behaviour it points  unresolved distress. You do this by living in the past and reliving the event every time you're triggered. You get triggered and the intrusive thoughts start rolling in. We gently teach you how to make distinctions between the real and imagined, becoming present orientated and in control.

What is the difference between a psychologist, psychiatrist and psychotherapist?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who focus on the assessment and treatment of mental illness, including prescribing medication. Unlike psychiatrists, psychologists are not trained to prescribe medication and focus and treating presenting issues with psychotherapy using  strategies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. While the roles of both disciplines are different, psychotherapists, Psychologists and Psychiatrists often work together in a multidisciplinary team setting to help patients manage emotional issues related to health.

Hypnotherapy is a separate modality at a diploma level study and used as an extension to various other psychotherapies.

What will my first session be like?

We recognise that coming to see a therapist can be daunting so we aim to help you to be comfortable enough to share whatever is on your mind and how things are not the way you would like. An initial visit is focused on gaining a detailed understanding of you & your needs and starting to formulate a plan to address these.
