Ready to relax and rediscover?

Clinical hypnotherapy is the term used for guiding a client into a deep state of relaxation allowing them to be more open to suggestions that can add benefit to thoughts, coping skills and ways of behaving.

The practice of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes involves getting into a relaxed state of mind where the therapist communicates with the conscious and subconscious part of your brain and makes suggestions relevant to specific symptoms like pain, anxiety, depression and addiction.

By offering suggestions while in this relaxed state you are more open to suggestibility and have an increase likelihood of change happening when compared to talking therapies alone. For this reason, many medically trained and allied health professionals are relying on hypnotherapy to fast-track results with their clients.

You might be wondering

What happens when under hypnosis?

The feeling while receiving hypnotherapy can be very easily linked to that in between stage of not sleep but not awake. You will feel relaxed enough to not need to move but alert enough for you to be aware of your surroundings.

Am I still in control while under hypnosis?

Yes, you are completely in control and I cannot make you do or say anything that you wouldn’t normally.

Can you uncover forgotten trauma from the past?

No, it is not considered ethical to recall memories from the past under hypnosis that you can’t recall while in an alert state. And for this reason I will not take you back into any traumatic event you aren’t aware off in day to day conversation.

Do you use scripts?

No, I believe your issues are unique to you and give each client I see a tailored approach. You will not be hearing and experiencing the same thing each session.

What is the difference between a psychologist, psychiatrist and psychotherapist?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who focus on the assessment and treatment of mental illness, including prescribing medication. Unlike psychiatrists, psychologists are not trained to prescribe medication and focus and treating presenting issues with psychotherapy using  strategies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. While the roles of both disciplines are different, psychotherapists, Psychologists and Psychiatrists often work together in a multidisciplinary team setting to help patients manage emotional issues related to health.

Hypnotherapy is a separate modality at a diploma level study and used as an extension to various other psychotherapies.

What will my first session be like?

We recognise that coming to see a therapist can be daunting so we aim to help you to be comfortable enough to share whatever is on your mind and how things are not the way you would like.
